In April, HMD Global unveiled Nokia’s X-series with a few 5G-capable mid-range models and Nokia’s G-series and only more affordable LTE models. But there’s apparently no 4G/5G division between the G and X series, as UK retailers have started listing a Nokia G50 with 5G connectivity.
LambdaTek lists two colors, Blue and Sand, two dual SIM phones with a 4/64 GB memory configuration. They are priced at £217.52 with VAT included, which equates to around €250/$300. This is between the Nokia X10 (€310) and the Nokia G20 (€160).
PlusComputers reduces that price a bit, £207.56 with VAT, while displaying the same colors and memory setup. This converts into €240/$285.
There is no information about the chipset brought by the 5G modem. In the case of the X10 (and even the more expensive X20), it’s a Snapdragon 480, the cheapest 5G chipset manufactured by Qualcomm. With that in mind, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a MediaTek Dimensity inside the G50.
By the way, there would also be a Nokia X50 that would be on its way with a Snapdragon 775 and a 108 MP camera. Unsurprisingly, the X-series model will have better hardware than the G-series unit. There’s also the rugged Nokia XR20 that leaked last week, which appears to be scheduled for an announcement on July 27.
Will we also see the G50 and X50 unveiled? This is doubtful for now as the event seems to focus solely on the rugged XR20. HMD’s product manager has announced a flagship launch for November 11 and while the G50 is not a flagship product, it could certainly accompany one.
