Sony representatives have contacted us to set the record straight regarding the expected software support for the Xperia 1 III flagship. The company plans to deliver at least two updates to the Android operating system of the flagship Mark 3.
This is much better than the only operating system update claimed by Sony Netherlands. And yes, the statement is worded defensively, but it is to cover unforeseen circumstances.
It should be noted that the Sony Xperia 1 III will launch in August in the UNITED STATES and Europe with Android 11 pre-installed. Google’s schedule shows that Android 12 will reach “platform stability” with beta 4, which is expected to be released in August and followed by an appropriate release shortly thereafter.
With that in mind, the Xperia 1 III should be updated to Android 13 at a minimum with security updates going beyond that.
