If you’re wondering what kind of software support to expect from Sony’s latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 III, we have the answer for you and you may not like it.
According to Sony Netherlands, the Xperia 1 III benefits from a major Android update and two years of monthly security updates. That’s right.
We really hope that this is a mistake – that someone from the Sony team in the Netherlands has been misinformed or something like that, because otherwise it’s pretty ridiculous. We’ve seen a lot of Android device manufacturers increase left and right their software support windows at least for flagships – Samsung, OnePlus, Oppo, etc. Even Google is supposed to increase the number of years it supports pixels from the Pixel 6 generation coming this fall.
And during all this, Sony seems to be in a completely different universe. Hopefully, the Japanese company will soon issue a statement saying that this was all a misunderstanding or something like that. Because if that’s not the case, you might want to think twice before shelling out €1,299 for a phone that will get the same number of major Android updates as a €200 N-series OnePlus Nord handset.
